How to create images without being an artist

Not everyone is a born artist or feels comfortable with their artistic talent. But by using the Bezier tool, we can use free to use images as a way to create outlines and fill in the shapes of our interest.

Using free use images and the Bezier tool

Once you have an idea of what images you want to create, we can first go to websites such as pixabay to search for a free image to use.

Here I searched for tomato fruit and selected a plan image of it what will be easy to create outlines of the fruits different elements. I then downloaded the image with reasonable resolution and file size and imported it into Inkscape.

Once the image is imported, we can use Layers as explained in Module 1.2 to work on a separate layer of the image and lock it in place while we outline image.

We will then:

  1. View layers.
  2. Lock (🔒) the current layer the fruit is in.
  3. Create (➕) a new layer on top of the fruit.
  4. Select the Bezier tool (🖊) with the Bspline mode.
